How You Accept These Terms
By creating an account and ticking the checkbox marked "I agree to the Terms & Conditions" at the point of registration, you enter into a legally binding agreement with AffirmStar on the terms set out below. The checkbox is not pre-ticked. We record the date and time of your acceptance. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the service.
1. Service Description & Eligibility
AffirmStar is a daily personalised affirmations application powered by artificial intelligence, astrology, and numerology. The service is intended for users aged 18 and over. During registration you will be asked to enter your date of birth; access is not permitted to anyone born less than 18 years ago. By completing registration you confirm you are at least 18 years old.
Free users receive standard affirmations. Premium users receive AI-personalised affirmations generated using Claude AI (Anthropic), tailored to their zodiac sign, numerology life path, and current moon phase.
AffirmStar is for motivational and wellness purposes only and does not constitute medical, psychological, financial, or legal advice.
2. Subscription & Billing
The Premium plan costs £9.99 per month and is billed automatically via Stripe. Subscriptions are auto-renewing — your payment method will be charged at the start of each billing period unless you cancel before renewal.
We will send you an email reminder at least 3 days before each renewal date as a courtesy. It is your responsibility to ensure your registered email address is current and able to receive emails from hello@affirmstar.com.
All prices are inclusive of applicable taxes. By subscribing you authorise AffirmStar to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
3. Your Statutory Right to Cancel (14-Day Cooling-Off Period)
If you are a consumer in the United Kingdom or European Union, you have a legal right under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 (UK) or Directive 2011/83/EU (EU) to cancel a new subscription within 14 days of purchase without giving any reason and receive a full refund.
However, by completing your purchase you expressly request that your Premium access begins immediately. By doing so, you acknowledge that if you exercise this cancellation right within the 14-day period, we will charge you on a pro-rata basis for the service used up to the date of cancellation, and refund the remainder.
To exercise your 14-day cancellation right, contact us at hello@affirmstar.com before the period expires. We will process eligible refunds within 14 days of receiving your cancellation request.
4. Cancellation After the Cooling-Off Period
After the 14-day cooling-off period, you may cancel your Premium subscription at any time from your Dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you will retain full Premium access until that date. No further charges will be made after cancellation. To cancel, log into your Dashboard and click ‘Cancel subscription’.
5. Refund Policy
Except as required by law (including your statutory cancellation rights in Section 3), all subscription fees are non-refundable once the cooling-off period has expired. Partial-period refunds are not provided after that point. If you cancel mid-period, your access continues to the end of the paid period. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (UK) or equivalent EU consumer law are not affected by this policy.
6. Data We Collect & Legal Basis
AffirmStar (hello@affirmstar.com) is the data controller for personal data you provide. We collect:
(a) All users: Your first name, email address, and date of birth — to create and manage your account and personalise the service (legal basis: performance of contract). Your derived cosmic profile (zodiac sign, life path number) is calculated automatically from your date of birth to deliver personalised affirmations. This calculation constitutes profiling under UK GDPR Article 4(4). No decisions with legal or similarly significant effects are made solely by automated means.
(b) Free users only: Your date of birth is used to derive your cosmic profile for standard affirmations. Your data is not sent to Anthropic or used for AI-personalised content.
(c) Premium users only: When you use AI-personalised affirmations, your zodiac sign and life path number (but not your name, email, or date of birth) are sent to Anthropic, Inc. (Claude AI), who acts as our data processor under a Data Processing Agreement. Anthropic processes this data solely to generate your personalised affirmation and does not retain it for its own purposes beyond those permitted under our agreement.
Data storage & international transfers: Your account data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore). Data may be processed in the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the UK ICO. Stripe, Inc. processes payment data under its own Data Processing Agreement; we never store or see your card details. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Retention: We retain your data for as long as your account is active, and for up to 12 months after your last login, after which inactive accounts and associated data are deleted.
7. Cookies & Local Storage
AffirmStar uses browser local storage (a technology similar to cookies) to remember your in-app preferences, such as display settings and onboarding status. This storage is strictly necessary for the service to function as you would reasonably expect it to.
We do not use third-party advertising cookies or behavioural tracking cookies. If we use any analytics tools that set cookies or similar technologies, we will obtain your prior consent before those technologies are activated.
You may clear your browser’s local storage at any time via your browser settings. Doing so will reset your in-app preferences but will not affect your account or subscription.
8. Your Data Protection Rights
Under UK GDPR (and EU GDPR for EU residents) you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Erasure — ask us to delete your data where no legitimate purpose remains
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Restriction — ask us to pause processing while a complaint is investigated
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on your consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
To exercise any right, email hello@affirmstar.com — we will respond within one calendar month. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), or for EU residents, your local data protection supervisory authority.
9. Marketing Communications
We may send you service-related emails (such as subscription confirmations, renewal reminders, and updates to these Terms). These are transactional and are necessary for the performance of our contract with you.
We will only send you promotional or marketing emails if you have given us your prior explicit consent. You may opt in during registration or at any time from your account Dashboard. You may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any marketing email or by emailing hello@affirmstar.com. Unsubscribing from marketing emails does not affect your subscription or service access.
10. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes our liability for:
- Death or personal injury caused by our negligence;
- Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation;
- Any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable mandatory law.
Subject to the above, AffirmStar shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages (including loss of profits or data) arising from your use of the service.
Our total aggregate liability to you in connection with any claim arising under or in relation to these Terms shall not exceed the total subscription fees paid by you in the 12 months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or £9.99 (whichever is greater). Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected by anything in this section.
11. Intellectual Property
All content, trademarks, and intellectual property on AffirmStar — including affirmation text, design, and software — are owned by or licensed to AffirmStar. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without prior written consent. AI-generated affirmations are provided for your personal, non-commercial use only and may not be republished, sold, or used for training artificial intelligence systems.
12. Governing Law & Consumer Rights
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Subject to the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence, disputes shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence apply and nothing in these Terms overrides your rights under EU consumer law (including Directive 2011/83/EU and Directive 93/13/EEC on unfair contract terms). In particular, EU consumers may bring proceedings in their home courts regardless of this clause.
UK consumers retain all rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
13. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email to your registered address at least 30 days before they take effect.
For material changes — including changes to pricing, cancellation rights, data processing, or limitation of liability — we will also display a notification within the app and ask you to confirm your acceptance before you can continue using the service. If you do not accept the revised Terms, you may cancel your subscription before they take effect and we will refund any unused portion of your current billing period on a pro-rata basis.
For non-material changes (such as corrections to typographical errors or improved clarity that does not affect your rights), we will update the document and note the revision date at the top.
14. Alternative Dispute Resolution
We hope to resolve any complaint you have directly. If you are unhappy with how we have handled a complaint, you may seek advice from Citizens Advice (citizensadvice.org.uk) or your local trading standards office.
We are not currently signed up to a certified Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) scheme. However, if you are an EU resident, you may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.
